Contempt Lawyers in Miami & Ft Lauderdale
Someone who refuses to pay alimony or child support or otherwise fails to comply with a court order may be held in contempt of court. A person held in contempt may be punished by imprisonment, a fine, or in any other manner the court finds appropriate. A court may find that a person should not be held in contempt if the person’s refusal to follow the court order is not willful. For example, a person will not be held in contempt if he or she is temporarily unable to pay child support because of involuntary unemployment, and the court may even temporarily suspend the support obligation.
